Students at Newport El are writing everyday!

Our students love to share their writing with an audience that reaches beyond their classrooms. Our hope is that you will read and enjoy the writing we have posted. Check out each of the grade level tabs above.

We'd love to hear what you think! What did you like about the writing? What could be improved? How did you connect?

My Dad

The person I admire most is my dad.  I admire my dad for many reasons, and I am going to name some reasons why.  I look up to him because he is very good at sports.  He teaches me how to be good at sports, and he coaches my baseball team every year.  He is very smart and teaches me everything.  I don’t understand.  For example, when he shows me something and I don’t understand it, he teaches me an easier way by taking time to tell me slower.  He is friendly, nice, and honest and teaches me to have those traits.  My dad usually tells me, “Be Honest.”

Every six years my dad takes me on a very special trip to any baseball stadium I want to go to.  When I turned six, I chose Fenway Park, the Red Sox home field, and Yankee Stadium, the Yankees home field.  One of the best things my dad does is that he gives me special privileges.  For example, when I was in Boston, he let me buy a bunch of Red Sox shirts and hats.  He also let me pick where we eat and let me have caffeine every meal we had.  I love my dad and he is very cool as you can clearly see.

A Person I Admire

The person I admire is my sister Tristin.  Tristin is always there for me whether I’m sad, happy, or mad.  She is there for me.  Tristin is many things, but I’m going to choose the top four.  Tristin is friendly, giving, super smart and kind.

I admire my sister because she is so caring and giving.  Once she got a sock monkey and she loved it a lot, but she gave it to me.  Tristin taught me that we can have many fights, but we will always be there for each other.

Tristin is my sister, but it’s not just because she’s my sister and she’s my whole life, it’s what she does and how much I love her.  Tristin is really, truly my whole life.  That is why I admire her.

Richie McCaw
Richie McCaw is a rugby player.  I admire him because he is honest.  He has respect and citizenship.  In one of his games, when they had won, they interviewed him because he was the captain of the team.  He said to the whole stadium, “We played well and won.  I am happy about that but they played better and should have won.”  He had respect for the other team.  He was honest with the crowd and he showed citizenship.

Richie McCaw has many talents and he got me into this sport.  From him, I learned if you win be nice and think the other team did really will too.  If you lose and the other team is shouting things like, “We won.  You lose.” Don’t get mad, just say we played well and you did too, but you deserved to win.  That’s who I admire and why.

The person I admire a lot is a train engineer.  This person takes people places.  They are very friendly and talented.  I admire these people because they have a cool job that I would like to do when I grow up.  One time, I met a very nice crew on the train.  They asked me, “Do you want to go up front with the engineer?”

I said, “Sure.”

The engineer was very nice.  He told me about all the controls, such as, the horn, throttle, brakes, and more.  This person changed my life.  Before, I wanted to be a garbage man!  Ugghh!  Not any more. That was when I was little.  Now, I want to be a train engineer.

This person had lots of talent.  They are always safe.  They are talented.  They are trained to do their job.  They are professional.

Here is one more reason why I admire them.  One time, they saved us!  I’ll tell you how on the other side.

(On the back side of the paper he wrote….)

One day we were on a train to Santa Barbara for my mission.  Then, we were coming towards a crossing.  A truck sped across!  It knocked the crossing gate onto the tracks!!!!  The engineer hit the e-brakes!  Just inches away from hitting it!  One crew member said on the PA, “Attention!  Attention!  We had a minor issue.  A truck sped across the tracks!  It will take five minutes to remove it.”

I also like the engineer because he saved us!

My Mom

My mom is a very important person.  She helps California’s, Hawaii’s and Nevada’s community by working for Hawaiian airlines.  Her job as a flight attendant helps the community very much.  One thing she helps with is that she can kick bad people off the plane.  She is like a police woman on a plane.  People sometimes need help getting their luggage into the overhead bin, so my mom helps them.  She can also talk to the passengers on the intercom.  When people need help boarding, my mom takes their luggage and helps them to their seat.  If someone takes out a gun, she can tell the pilot and have NORAD take them to the nearest and big enough airport to land and kick that person off the plane.  She is very important to me and I love her very much.

Have you ever been really sad and you need someone to talk to?  Well, I’ve never had that problem.  Hi, my name is Bryton XXX. (The last name was removed to protect student privacy.) and the person I admire most is my mom because you can always trust her because she always has a way of remembering things.  She would take notes, write it on her computer, and she also tries to remember.  Another reason I admire her is because she is always open to new ideas.  For example, whenever a friend of hers tells her about a new place she always wants to try it.  She even moved to LA!

My mom is also a giver.  She cares for me and my sister.  She plans really fun birthday parties for us.  She takes us to church where she also donates to it.  Her talent is researching health.  She is always looking for new ways so our family would be healthy too.  Also, she has been posting videos on Youtube so other people can learn from her.  This is why my mom is the person I admire.
