Students at Newport El are writing everyday!

Our students love to share their writing with an audience that reaches beyond their classrooms. Our hope is that you will read and enjoy the writing we have posted. Check out each of the grade level tabs above.

We'd love to hear what you think! What did you like about the writing? What could be improved? How did you connect?

My Dad
There are many people that I admire, but one that I admire most is my dad.  I admire him so much because he teaches me important life lessons.  For example, he always does work before play, but once he’s done working he knows how to have fun.  Making jokes is one of his favorite ways.  His jokes are sometimes stupid, but that’s what makes them so funny.  My dad also says it’s very important to stay active.  He always is riding his bike and telling me to get exercise by playing football or soccer at the park.
All of these things are things I admire about my dad, but I think one of the most important life lessons he taught me is to be generous.  He helps people he doesn’t even know.  Every year at Christmas he makes us adopt a family and buys them gifts.  As much as he is generous to other people he is also generous to me.  My dad cooks for me, spends time with me, and brings me stuff like homework when I forget.  I love my dad and will always look up to him and admire everything he does.

Do you admire anyone in your life?  There are a lot of people I look up to, but I admire my mom the most.
I admire my mom the most because she’s always been there for me and always will.  I’ve always wanted to be a singer or an actress and for the past year she’s put all her time and money into vocal and acting lessons to help me achieve my goal.
My mom supports me 100% and likes the fact I want to follow my dreams.  Whenever I feel discouraged, she tells me, “Look how much you’ve learned from last year; just wait until next year.”  It makes me feel a lot better and encourages me to show my vocal and acting coach I’m ready for an audition.
Finally, when all the hard work is over and I’m on stage as I perform, my eyes are on my mom as she tears up with a smile.  In that moment it makes me want to cry.  Without my mom I wouldn’t be the “me” I am today.

I admire a lot of people but this person stand out the most.  Her name is Kelsey. (Last name was removed to protect privacy)  Kelsey is a great dancer, like in the dance, “Where’s Waldo?”  She does everything perfect.  She points her feet, her kick is very high, and she always smiles.
The reason I look up to her is the fact that she’s generous.  When she has some free time, s goes and helps out the younger girls in their classes.  By that I mean, when we go across the floor she very wisely tells us to point our feet or to kick a little higher.
When I watch her dance, I see what I’m working for.  I see if I work hard I can become as good as her.  She shows me how to get better.  She also makes me want to work harder.
If you see someone who makes you want to get better or work harder, you know they’re someone to admire.

A Person I Admire
I have a special person in my mind every single day.  He takes care of me and helps me with anything he can.  He is my dad, Steve. (Last name was removed to protect privacy)
I admire my dad for many reasons.  He is very nice and generous.  He also has very smart ideas and a great sense of humor.  His jokes make me laugh a lot.  So much that I barely ever focus on stuff sometimes.
My dad has also introduced me to many interesting things.  Some of those things include soccer, Nascar, new foods, baseball, and new fiends from different places.  He has also taken my fears and…many different things.  Some are people getting hurt, big and tall kids, bullies, and things that look gross.
My dad also helped me along the way.  With his athletic spirit, he has helped me get better at baseball and soccer as I moved he …through the years.  He also helps me get fast.  He noticed my running one day and told me that I was going to be a star one day.
Without my dad, I wouldn’t have been where I am today; a smart kid who loves sports, is smart, a soccer player who is on his All-Star team, and a fast kid who can run a mile in 7:13.  As a great and loyal man, I home my dad can bring me hope for the future.  My dad, Steve (Last name was removed to protect privacy), is the person I admire.

A Person I Admire
Paulo Prietto is a great man who inspires and influences me in many ways.  He is a three time world champion skimboarder that does not only inspire me with his smooth effortless riding; he also is a friendly and caring person who travels around the world just to teach skimboarding classes.  Paulo puts on a competition every year just for kids to try to introduce younger kids to the little known sport.  He has encouraged kids of all ages to follow their passion.  Paulo has shown me, even if you have kids, you can still skimboard in competitions.  He has even traveled all the way to Cabo San Lucas to compete.  He has inspired me to keep on trying and if I try hard enough maybe someday I’ll be like him.

The Person I Admire…
The person I admire is smart, helpful, active, and trusting.  She is my mom.  I look up to her because we have many things in common and she is very interesting.  She speaks a lot of languages, and I know some of the languages she speaks.  She knows English, Spanish, German, French, and a little Swedish.  We also love traveling.  With her language skills, she could speak to people in their language and get directions to interesting places to explore.   Both of us like to learn and find new things.  We always go on walks and hikes every week to exercise.
She is also very trusting.  When I always have a problem, she has a solution.  I always go straight to her.  I also admire her because she has amazing acting and she has a beautiful voice.  In her acting, she is very dramatic and her voice is deep like “Blues”.  She has a weird personality, which I like about her.  I wonder what I would be today without her?  She’s taught me so many things and I love her so much.  That’s why I admire and look up to my mom.
